This architectural gem, built in the early 20th century, witnessed numerous cultural, festive and historical events before becoming the Lycée international de Saint-Germain, welcoming its first pupils in 1952.
Its first owner was the inventor of the famous Valda pastille, Henri-Edmond Canonne, before the house was bought in 1928 by the rich Maharajah of Indore and became notable for its lavish receptions.
It was used from early on in the Second World War, first as a hospital for colonial troops, then commandeered by the German army, then as a meeting place for the Allied Forces at the time of liberation. During its many lives, it has also been used as a film set.
Finally, in 1952, it was converted into the international school of the 'SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe) village' and the NATO lycée before welcoming its first pupils as the Lycée International de Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
Today, the ground-floor rooms and the basement theatre are the scene for the school's vibrant social and cultural life. Meetings, seminars, rehearsals, shows and concerts take place here throughout the school year.
Visits are often organised on Journées Européenes du Patrimoine (European Heritage Days).
