Explore and learn about our "famous characters": Alexandre Dumas, Claude Debussy and Maurice Denis.
Morning:
- Château de Monte-Cristo
A tour of the estate that was developed from 1844 by Alexandre Dumas, made wealthy by the success of "The Three Musketeers". The "Renaissance" château boasts a moorish lounge, which is a rare feature. In the English gardens, the Château d'If housed the studio where some of the writer's most famous books were written!
Lunch
Afternoon
- House where Claude Debussy was born.
Born in 1862, the composer spent the first two years of his life here. He won the Grand Prix of Rome in 1884 and his pioneering work had a profound influence on the music of the 20th century. In an intimate, subdued atmosphere, the museum displays his personal belongings and muscial scores as well as some iconographic documents.
- Musée Départemental Maurice Denis
The painter acquired this former royal general hospital in 1914 and lived with his family in the imposing setting until the end of his life. Today it is a museum devoted to his memory and to that of the Symbolist and Nabis artists. The visit also includes the chapel and gardens.
